Stephanie McLennan was born in Moree, NSW, grew up in Mundubbera and Redcliffe and educated in Brisbane, QLD. She has a passion for food and travel and an attachment to the landscape. She has had an appreciation of art and creativity since childhood and dabbled with Chinese brush painting in 1982. She has lived in places as diverse as Rabaul and Arawa, PNG and Canberra, ACT. She now lives in Montville on the Blackall Range, Sunshine Coast, QLD.
On retirement from physiotherapy she fulfilled an ambition to paint having lessons with Kathy Hope. In 2003 after commencing classes with the Watercolour Society of Queensland she was invited to join a group of plein air painters travelling west. This was a serendipitous meeting of like souls. Women of Wit and Wisdom (WOWW), an informal art group, emerged. The group has since travelled to many parts of Queensland and subsequently held very successful exhibitions. In 2008 the group went to Italy. Rapt in Tuscany was the most successful exhibition to date. In 2010 the group travelled to New Zealand and held another very successful exhibition April 30, 2011 called Middle-earth and Beyond.
Stephanie works in most mediums but she prefers the immediacy and luminosity of watercolour. She is influenced by Asian art incorporating brush painting techniques. She draws inspiration from the natural environment and loves the challenge of capturing the spirit and light in her paintings. She enjoys participating in workshops and classes including those with Madeleine Herbert, Tony Smibert, David Paulson, Pauline Adair, Peter Hollard, John Wolsley, Peter Hudson, Rex Bacchus Smith, Hermann Pekel and Sonja Georgeson.
2007 Stephanie participated in a Visual Arts Professional Development Course to improve business practice.
2008 Stephanie and seven other artists registered Sunshine Coast Artists as a business name and created the website above, offering studio visits by appointment. The group featured on Channel 7’s Great South East.
