Annie McDonld  ARTIST STATEMENT
I started working with glass in 1985 at Mt Coolum, doing a leadlight course with Norm Birrell in Maroochydore.
In 1989 my family & I moved to Cooroy and I started my business ‘The Stainglass Sun’. I also started to run workshops in windows, lamps and sun catchers, which proved very popular & fun.
In 1996 I opened a shop & gallery in Cooroy which was very successful.
In January 1999 I was asked by a stained glass artist to help with his commission “The Creation Windows” for St. Monica’s Cathedral in Cairns. I spent 2 years working on this project as well as doing my own commissions. A once in a lifetime experience as these windows are the largest contemporary stained glass windows in the southern hemisphere, worth a look!!
I have a lot of experience as a glass artist, having fun designing and fabricating hundreds of leadlight windows & lamps for ecclesiastic, business and domestic application.
2001 I received a grant from Arts Qld. To do a traditional, kiln fired painting and staining course with Gerry Cummins in Melbourne. This experience initiated my interest in Kiln fired glassware. So I started to experiment with all different facets of fusing and slumping glass. After months of experimentation with various glasses, temperature and methods I developed a unique range, ‘Annie McDonald’s Kiln Fired Glassware. Then a couple of years later I also developed my fused glass jewellery.
I sold my work for several years in many galleries and shops down the east coast of Australia and Adelaide. 2008 I sold work in England, Wales, Ireland, London and New York.
Exhibitions: Waterford 2002
Summer Exhibition Noosa Heads 2009
Rising Sun Retreat 2011 All very successful!

2004 Treasurer – Cooroy Butter Factory Arts Centre
Founder – of ‘The Gallery’ a co-operative for artists

The different colours in the glass can be inspiring in itself…………….I have a glass addiction!! Which I want to share with everyone, the uniqueness of my work is pretty special; I would like to think that my platters inspire great cooks! Or you can just display them somewhere special……..ENJOY & SMILE!!
