Wholesale Framing – Canvas Stretching – Art Supplies

Although Highly Strung has been established for around 13 years, current owners Matt Holmes and his wife Tarin only became involved 3 years ago – Tarin as 3rd Generation art dealer and gallery owner is also responsible for artwork vetting for the Australian Antique & Art Dealers Association (AAADA) and in those capacities requires quite a number of works of art framed and restored on a fairly regular basis. Following the families relocation from London in 2007, Tarin tried scores of framers across the country from Brisbane to Melbourne with varying results until she was recommended to Highly Strung about 4 years ago by a colleague from Sothebys Art Auctions.

After trying their services she quickly became a regular client having much of her art restored and re-framed by the team. A year later she discovered that the business was up for sale as the previous owners wanted to move on to a new venture…….and in the spirit of the old TV ad for Remington shavers – “she liked it so much she bought the company!”

The team at Highly Strung have remained with the business and Tarin and Matt have made use of their experience in the art world to add their own touches, expanding the range of art supplies on offer and bringing some different ideas on framing and design into the mix. Offering Wholesale & Custom Framing, Canvas Stretching and a wide range of artist’s supplies & materials.

We have a 2 day Encaustic workshop run by Nancy Stockman happening on 16th and 17th March – we will also be holding our monthly mixed media workshops during 2013, beginning in Feb I think but I’m still to confirm dates with Froyle who runs those and we will also be holding Acrylic painting workshops with Sussanne Morton Ehlers (an 8 week course) starting in late Feb or early march – details on all these will be available in the shop or on the website in the coming weeks.  We had a kids expressive painting workshop on 12th Jan with Debra Dougherty and will be hosting another shortly after Easter. Also we have our 1 day annual sale on Easter Saturday with 50% off frames and 20% off supplies.
