Born in Brisbane, 1950.  My first introduction to the art world was at a young age while on holidays on Bribie Island, where I was privileged to have spent time with Ian Fairweather, collecting cardboard for him to paint on and totally intrigued by his art and hermit existence. At 17, cooking became my creative expression and I became a chef, and in the 70’s moved to Noosa, working in many of the original restaurants, Barry’s on the Beach, Angles and The Shingle Chalet. After many years in hot kitchens and trying my hand at many different forms of art or creativity, I picked up a paint brush in the early 80’s and proceeded to educate myself in the art of painting, through the readings, the practice, application & theory of some of my peers, such as Gauguin, Rembrandt, Francis Bacon and Picasso. Many of my works pay homage to the masters.

I like to excite the viewer’s thoughts and imagination in my paintings and push the realms of typical socially excepted art. Subject matter is varied, symbolic images are used, sometimes sublime, profound and even confronting. I do not paint decorative art, my works are challenging, provocative and sensual, a feast for the senses, as well as the intellect and the spirit - the aim being - to awaken and nourish the viewer. My paintings have been described as a feast for the eyes and the soul, I hope that the viewer does not leave empty once the snack has been digested.

In 2005 I painted ÇHLOE IN NOOSA, paying homage to Jules Lefebvre’s 1875 CHLOE that hangs in the Young and Jackson hotel in Melbourne. Unfortunately Chloe in Noosa was removed from public view after one week, due to public anger over her nudity. She now hangs in our private gallery at home.

If you wish to view Chloe or any of my other works, please ring for an appointment.
